StarChronos is an advanced astronomical visualization and analysis platform designed to render accurate planetary, cometary, and interstellar object trajectories across both two-dimensional and three-dimensional views of the solar system. The system integrates real-time ephemeris data from NASA’s JPL Horizons database, enabling precise orbital calculations for planets, asteroids, comets, trans-Neptunian objects, and interstellar visitors such as ʻOumuamua and Borisov. The platform allows users to explore celestial mechanics across vast spans of time, supporting both historical backcasting and future forecasting over millennia.
The application combines a high-performance React and TypeScript frontend with a specialized backend service that retrieves and processes astronomical state vectors. These vectors are transformed into interactive visualizations that display orbital paths, velocity vectors, perihelion and aphelion markers, and dynamic position updates relative to different celestial reference frames. Users can change perspectives, center the system on different bodies, and toggle object categories to explore complex gravitational interactions within the solar system.
StarChronos emphasizes both scientific accuracy and visual clarity. Custom coordinate transformations convert ephemeris data into meaningful spatial projections, while optimized rendering pipelines allow thousands of orbital data points to be displayed smoothly within the browser. The interface also supports deep-time navigation, allowing users to explore planetary alignments and object trajectories from 10,000 BCE to 10,000 CE.
